Starting from fresh fish up to foreign specialities: In Rostock you can feast, what your heart is treasuring.
Are you a gourmet with a fine palate? Then you have to visit the gourmet restaurants: the Old Town restaurant "Amberg 13" and the two restaurants in the seaside resort of Warnemünde "ChezAnn" and "Die Gartenlaube".
Or are you more likely a sweet epicure? You have to visit the "Schokoladerie de Prie" in the city harbour. There you will get to know the chocolate sides of Rostock.
But sometimes the location and the view out of the window are more important than the Michelin Star and chocolate. Therefore, several posh restaurants and bars have settled down along the Baltic Sea and the river Warnow. But also in the trendy district of Kröpeliner-Tor-Vorstadt cosy pubs and coffees allure with culinary viands.
These culinary specialities of Rostock are absolutely recommended:
"Rostocker Pils"
In Rostock the art of brewing has a long tradition. Her source goes far back to the year 1258. Over the bounds and beyond of the harbour and Hanseatic city the beer is valued for the quality and flavour.
The "Rostocker Premium-Pils" was already four times awarded with the DLG-Gold. For interested guest it is possible to visit the Hanseatic Brewery of Rostock.
"Mann un Fru"
"Mann un Fru" is a schnaps speciality with a taste of mild caraway. The "Doppelkümmel" of Rostock is traditional dispensed since 1864. The external of the bottle is decorated with a man and woman in historical clothes. "Mann un Fru" is a nationwide very popular product.
"Rostock Rauchwurst"
The "Rostocker Rauchwurst" is an original Mecklenburger sausage product, made without beef. The basic ingredients which are used for the product have a high quality. Naturally the sausage is sold fresh out of the beechen or alder smoke.
"Mecklenburger Rippenbraten"
The "Mecklenburger Rippenbraten" (ripped roast of Mecklenburg) is filled with prunes, mostly served with boiled potatoes and red cabbage with apples.

"Sanddorn" Another typical regional product on the Baltic sea coast is Sanddorn. The orange-yellow gleaming berries of the Sanddorn have a very high vitamin C concentration. These are going to be processed to juice, nectar, liqueur, candy's, honey or as Sanddorntea. As well a multitude of cosmetics are produced out of the oil of the "lemon of the north".

In the largest and most important city in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, shopping is a pleasure, too. Distinctive pedestrian zones have come into being from Doberaner Platz to Neuer Markt, from Universitätsplatz to the city harbour. Streets and alleyways in the heart of town are just made for a stroll. In Rostock, it´s worth looking around left and right of the main streets in order to discover lots of little shops in stores, lovingly restored town houses and broad shopping arcades. Insider tips include a chocolaterie at the city harbour and the varied pub territory of Kröpeliner-Tor-Vorstadt. The trendy district, home to many students, offers an alluring range of cheeky little delights.
Any shopping expedition in Rostock´s historic city centre is to the romantic accompaniment of big churches, lovely gabled houses and impressive storehouses. The unique atmosphere, with witnesses to redbrick Gothic, the Renaissance and baroque mingling with modern buildings, resembles a walk through the history of architecture. The Kröpeliner-Tor-Center greets its customers with a smorgasbord of fashion, supermarket, technology store and coffee shop.
From February to November in Warnemünde, the attractive resort on the Baltic Sea, there´s shopping on Sundays too. Strolling along the Alter Strom, on the promenade and around Kirchenplatz brings delight to every sense. The fish market on Warnemünde Mittelmole is a daily enticement with freshly caught fish straight from the cutter and the fine smell of smoked goods.
